Ending The Silence

The holiday season is upon us! While this is normally a time for fellowship and celebration, this time of year presents a lot of stressful challenges. For youth and teens who struggle with their mental health, these challenges and stressors can be overwhelming, making it truly difficult to enjoy life during this time of year. This is why we wish to present Ending The Silence around the holidays so youth and families feel empowered to discuss their mental health needs!

NAMI CVA is excited to announce two community-wide Ending the Silence for Students presentations in December, held in partnership with BeWellVA. The first program will be on Monday, December 13th from 6:30 – 8:00, and the second will be on Monday, December 20th from 6:30 – 8:00 P.M. Both presentations will be delivered virtually using Zoom, and registration is required. Sign up today, because seats will fill up fast!
Note: These are two offerings of the same presentation; you will only need to sign up for one

What is Ending the Silence?

NAMI Ending the Silence is an engaging one-hour presentation where audience members learn about the warning signs of mental health conditions and what steps to take if you or a loved one are showing symptoms of a mental health condition. The presentation includes the testimony of a young adult who speaks about their lived-experience with mental health as a high school student. Click this link to see a ‘sneak preview’ of the program!

What will I learn?

This presentation seeks to answer the following questions: What exactly IS mental health? How does it relate to our overall health? How do I find help or help a friend? What resources are available in my school or my community? How common are mental health disorders? What are some healthy coping skills to help when times get tough?
Who can attend?
This presentation is great for students (14 and up) and family members who wish to know more about mental health. The information is helpful for anyone who wants to help end the silence and raise mental health awareness.
