County of Hanover

Engaging parents, empowering youth, and building resiliency throughout the community of Hanover

What are Prevention and Education Services?

Prevention programming and related activities provide education, support and skill-building opportunities for Hanover County youth and their families. The goal of community education and prevention services is to “keep healthy people healthy.” Programs promote resiliency and well-being through parent education, after-school programming, and skill-building workshops for children, teens and adults.

The Community Education Team works together to coordinate and implement programs that promote healthy, drug-free families and communities. Skilled professional staff provide training, consultation, public speaking, and group services to individuals, agencies, schools, churches, businesses, and community groups.
Prevention Services are available to all residents of Hanover County. Please call Martha Lambert, Coordinator of Community Education for more information: 365-4228 or malambert@hanovercounty.gov. Learn More

Mental Health Matters!

You are more likely to encounter someone — a friend, family member, co-worker, neighbor, or member of the community — in an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack. Hanover Community Services offers a variety of programs to help you to recognize and respond to these situations.
Call (804) 365-4228 or email malambert@hanovercounty.gov for upcoming course dates, or to arrange to bring any of these programs to your Hanover organization.

Community Partners in Wellness

Hanover Teens CARE Too Coalition

TC2 is a youth-led coalition of Hanover teens who want to make a difference in their community. Activities include Sticker Shock, merchant education / retailer compliance checks, and other alcohol, tobacco and drug awareness activities. TC2 youth share a common interest in leading initiatives in our community that encourage substance-free life. TC2 members plan and implement projects they hope will prevent their peers from getting caught up in problems with alcohol and drugs.

Hanover Early Childhood Coalition

From the first day of life to the first day of kindergarten, children grow faster than at any other time in their lives. The first five years of life literally shape how the brain gets built, laying the foundation for a lifetime of learning. Parents are their children’s first and most important teachers. We can show your how.

Hanover CARES

The Hanover CARES Coalition is dedicated to helping Hanover kids grow up alcohol, tobacco, and drug-free.  This is a grass-roots organization that welcomes anyone interested in helping kids make positive choices.  Hanover CARES is a partnership of Hanover parents, citizens, youth-serving organizations, and county agencies dedicated to positive youth development.  The coalition has two primary goals:
1. To increase parental awareness and community involvement in prevention youth substance use and related problem behaviors;
2. To engage youth in creating positive change in their community and celebrate their efforts.
Additional information about raising drug-free kids can be found at www.hanover-cares.org or like us at hanovercares on Facebook.
